Recipe: Grilled Egg and Cheese Sandwich

Want a quick and awesome sandwich?  You can make this in one pan, all at once.

Prep Time:  5 minutes
Cook Time:  5 minutes

1 egg
2 slices of bread
2 Tbs butter, sliced thin
1 slice of cheese

Recipe after the jump

First, place the slices of butter all over the pan.  Adding one large slab will melt slower and the pan will be so hot by then that it might start smoking before everything is done cooking.

Set the heat to medium-high and as soon as the butter is melted, tilt the pan around to spread the molten butter evenly across the pan

Add two slices of bread to the edge of the pan, drop a slice of your favorite cheeze on one, and add the egg to the remaining space.  Puncture the yolk.

Once the cheese starts to melt, its safe to assume the egg is ready to be flipped too.  Flip it, then season the egg to taste.  If you are using an electric stove, turn it off.  The heat that's there is enough to finish the job.

Wait about one minute for the egg to finish cooking.  Assemble and enjoy!

  1. Once I finish some bread recipes, I will post the nutritional values there. I am relatively certain there is less sodium in the bread I make. I do not use baking soda or powder, and avoid commercially produced yeast (see sourdough starter recipe in a static page). As a frame of reference, the two slices of grocery store white bread have 340 grams of sodium.
